Product and Technical Information
This auger is a Type 6 model, which is equipped with various cutting styles to accommodate different soil and rock conditions: DC/DF (Dirt Cutting/Double Flight), DC/SF (Dirt Cutting/Single Flight), and SC/SF (Soil Cutting/Single Flight). The Kelly boxes are made to the customer’s specifications, ensuring a precise fit for the drilling equipment being used.
The center shaft diameter options range from 4 inches OD to 12 inches OD, and a solid shaft is available for some sizes, providing additional strength for heavy-duty drilling. The flighting is offered in thicknesses of 1 inch to 2 inches, with all flight inside diameters beveled to ensure better weld penetration, which is critical for the durability and longevity of the auger.
For augers with a diameter of 30 inches or larger, laminate flight is used to provide extra strength and resistance to bending or wear. This is particularly important for an auger of this size, as it will be subject to significant forces during drilling operations.
Wear protection is provided by wear pads that measure 2 inches by 3 inches by ½ inch (part number 39302). These pads help to protect the auger against the abrasive forces encountered during drilling, thereby extending its usable life.
For the wear items, the auger can be equipped with multi-purpose rock wear parts. The rock option includes a B47K19LK80-H tooth (part number 30182), a 38mm Tri-holder (part number 32064), and an RP-4 Machined Pilot (part number 40285), which are designed to handle the challenges of drilling through rock.
The dirt option features teeth suitable for softer ground conditions, such as the BFZ 113×70/D (part number 34241) for dirt and the BFZ 100×70/2 (part number 34172) for carbide reinforcement. Both options use the same 38mm Tri-holder. The pilot for dirt drilling is a 4-inch square JM 8-inch Dirt Pilot (part number 40260), which ensures the auger drills accurately and remains stable in softer soils.
In conclusion, the 72″ Multi-Purpose Auger is a heavy-duty tool that can be customized to meet the specific needs of various drilling projects, offering high performance and durability across different ground conditions.
